Why a blog?
Mostly because I am cranky. And there is a lot in the world to be cranky about, but mostly I'm frustrated by people. Lazy, entitled, self-absorbed, whiny, judgemental people. If you guessed a lot of those people frequent my town's Facebook page, well, you would be right.
Obviously I could choose to unfollow the page, but every once in a while someone posts something that I need to know. And of course I could scroll past any post that I know is going to raise my blood pressure, but I find it so hard to back away from a good debate. Every once in a while there is an intelligent, thought provoking post. Unfortunately you have to wade through a lot of idiotic posts to find those gems. Sometimes, OK often, I enjoy having some fun with the idiots. I know, I know, don't feed the morons, just let natural selection do its job until they are gone. But, what's the fun in that?
I can't say that there was one thing that put me over the edge, but in the last week Halloween, the election and retail stores being open on Thanksgiving have all managed to elicit some well thought out discussion. Somewhere. Not on my town's most popular page, but I'm sure somewhere there was some good debate. I was subjected to a lot of people just regurgitating the latest memes, because obviously those are the way, the truth and the life.
This blog will be more than just about my town's Facebook page because there are plenty of other things (and people) that annoy me. Work, the grocery store, movie theaters, PTO meetings; basically everyone outside of my home has the potential to get under my skin. And yes, the people living in my home too. Oh, hell, I even irritate myself sometimes.
I have a lot of thoughts racing around in my mind and a blog seems like the perfect place to let them out. Therapeutic almost. And who knows, maybe there will even be something I actually like once in a while. Perhaps a positive, even motivational post. But I wouldn't count on it.
